On Wednesday 4/9/2024, the ceremony of presenting first report of implementing the strategy of Anti- Corruption in Saad Abdulla hall in Erbil took place.
In the ceremony, Mr. Masroor Barzani prime minister of Kurdistan region, Haydar Hanoon chairman of commission of integrity of Iraq, officials of European Union, ministers and ambassadors were present, Dr. Ahmed Anwar presented a speech.
Dr. Ahmed Anwar chairman of commission of integrity of Kurdistan Region presented the first report of implementing the strategy of Anti- Corruption and stated that, the steps of the strategy were implemented and this is a good news.
He said’’ This is the first report on Iraqi level about implementing the strategy of Anti- Corruption is being published’’.
Chairman of commission of integrity stated that, till now Iraq is considered one of the corrupt countries around the world, according to reports and assessments of international organizations is in the level 20 to 25 of corrupt countries in the world.
Dr. Ahmed Anwar stated that, this assessment is for all Iraq and consists Kurdistan region also because till now different assessment wasn’t implemented on Kurdistan region.
Chairman of commission of integrity presented that, upon request of Kurdistan region and within financial support of (UNDP) is decided that in near future an assessment process for transparency on institutional level of Kurdistan Region to be implemented.
This will ask all the institutions to cooperate this team, which is provided by transparency international organization, and the report will be announced in one year.
Chairman of commission of integrity of Kurdistan Region stated that, they have a deep connection with commission of integrity of Iraq and together they’re trying more to confront corruption.
Chairman of commission of integrity of Kurdistan Region talked about the elections of Kurdistan parliament which will be took place in 20th of October this year, and stated that ‘’ from the beginning of this process with the cooperation of the independent commission of higher elections, they examined the candidates, and of course none of the candidates wasn’t accused of corruption crimes before’’.
Dr. Ahmed Anwar stated that, they implemented many meetings with the representatives of political parties that participates in elections till now about the ‘’ draft of dignity proof’’ they taken the opinions of political parties in to consideration and we want to present to all political parties as soon as possible so as to sign it and stick to it.
As chairman of commission of integrity of Kurdistan region stated that, dignity proof contains many important points which makes the political parties to oblige to the rule of law, the basis of democracy and managing a civil election according to the instructions of commission of elections.
Also defending the entity of Kurdistan region and developing relations with federal government, on the basis of fundamental law is another part of the proof. Dr. Ahmed Anwar says ‘’ They’re taken the opinions of political parties in to consideration’’.
